Financial Information

My health, my information!

If you are under 18, under Massachusetts law, you can consent to your own medical treatment only under the following circumstances (in each of these circumstances the medical provider must obtain consent from you to disclose information to a third party).

  • Treatment for substance use (ages 12 or older)
  • Inpatient mental health treatment (ages 16 or older)
  • STIs and other diseases dangerous to the public health (ages 13 or older)
  • Pregnancy
  • Parenting teens (minor parents may also consent to medical and dental treatment for their children)
  • Family planning services

How can I keep my information confidential?

If you have health insurance and the plan is in another person’s name (parent or spouse), that person is referred to as the “policy holder” of your health plan. As part of standard health insurance communications, your health insurance company can send some of your confidential health information to the policy holder.

In Massachusetts you have the right to ask that your insurance company restrict or refuse the disclosure of information about you to the policy holder and that they send communications to you by alternative means or to alternative locations. To do this you should contact your insurance company.

Our Sexual Health program is publicly funded. MA Law requires us to report information about positive HIV/STI results.

How much will testing cost?

STI Testing by Fenway Health’s sexual health team is at no cost to you. Your insurance information will be collected, and your insurance will be billed (exceptions can be made upon request) but there will be no copay or charge to you at the time of your visit. If any of your tests come back positive, treatment is also at no cost to you.
